PINIR is a family specific database for potato type inhibitor-II proteins. These are Serine protease inhibitors characterized by presence
of multiple inhibitory repeat domains, disulphide bond pattern and a tripeptide reactive center loop. PINIR database contains Pin-II
type PI protein sequences annotated for these features.
Sub-categorization of Pin-II type PIs is provided, based on characteristics like number of IRDs, linker regions, RCLs and disulphide bond architecture. Database analysis showed that alternative processing at
linker regions could generate multiple variants of Pin-II type inhibitor proteins. The PINIR database also offers sequence analytical capabilities for further research and
thus will facilitate identification of novel Pin-II type PI sequences.
